My Latest Fashion Obsession

…more like a fashion faux pas! I’m currently obsessed with these $2.00 scarves I bought from eBay & yes, they are replicas of the infamous Alexander McQueen scarves. *lol* I adore skulls, I really do….we can thank Avenged Sevenfold for that ;)

I bought one in black & loved it SO much that I bought one in white. I’ve also purchased two more of each scarf so that I can tie them to extend the length because these are quiet short.

I’ve been so sick with  a bad cold and it’s hard to feel glam or put together because of it. Adding this scarf to a basic tee, pumps, & skinny jeans gives my outfit a dose of Nancy Valentino “casual glam”.

I wish these scarves came in assorted colors but I can settle for black & white. As you can tell I have a lot of black & white in my wardrobe…

…and for the most tacky picture of all…I swore I’d never be one of “those people” *lol*

I think Nancy Valentino is undefinable.

Rocker Chic. Preppy. Punk. Conservative. I can’t really define myself into a specific category although I’d like to think of myself as a fashionista & makeup junkie with a love of tattoos. I don’t know too many people like myself who are into glamour, beauty, fashion that also share the passion of skulls—ie the infamous Avenged Sevenfold deathbat. My other passions include silent movies, documentaries–need I go on?? See? I don’t really think I can define myself! A brunette Barbie with a deathbat tattoo perhaps?!

For Christmas, my husband got me this awesome rocker chic clutch with a massive skull on it—okay, I picked it out, but I acted surprised on Christmas morning! The skull is a little funny looking—his little mouth is open *lol* I love the size of this clutch—it’s very spacious. I’ve had a hard time finding an oversized chic clutch—this one is perfect. On to the subject of skulls, I also asked for this delicate skull charm necklace. It’s so petite and tiny. Skulls are not the most feminine thing in the world but the necklace just screams Nancy Valentino. **Excuse tattoo! It’s faded a bit and needs to be touched up (I will be doing that in a few days!)*

As for the rest of the outfit—big shock here—I’m wearing my Forever 21 cardie! It’s one of the most comfortable & chic things I own. I’m very certain this is a piece that I’ll wear often this winter season.
The holiday season is finally over. Poo. I have my sights set on Valentine’s Day now.

…bought Creme D’Nude from MAC and….I’M IN LOVE. I’ve never found a lipstick that worked so perfectly for me. It’s fabulous & such a flattering shade for my skin tone.

I took some shots to add to my Fashbo portfolio which I’ve added to this post as well.

I was oh so happy with how my eyes turned out too! I created a really awesome maroon smoky eye using MAC’s eye shadows in Jest, Sable & Sketch. With a little bronzer & MAC’s Creme D’nude-I feel head over heels in love with this look.

Vintage Brooches & My Style Inspiration

My fashion statement piece at the moment are: Vintage Brooches

I am a big fan of brooches. It’s a good way to add a little personalization to your look. I usually have the brooch (pictured below-crappy cell phone pic!) on my pea coat and I feel that it adds a certain something. I have constantly gotten comments on this brooch.

Recently I purchased this beautiful cameo. Being a lover of vintage, I feel that it gives my look a hint of the past while wearing a modern outfit.

This brooch (pictured below) is the one that I am the most excited to play around with. It’s inspired by Little Edie Beale.

After watching Grey Gardens & learning more about Little Edie Beale, I became inspired by her fashion. Little Edie and her mother, Big Edie were not the most normal people in the world (in fact they were very reclusive). They were free spirits and that’s what I absolutely LOVED about them.  Little Edie had a VERY unique fashion sense and she was not afraid to take risks.  She was strikingly beautiful in her younger years.

Some people may have thought Edie’s style was “out there” but it was distinctive, isn’t that was fashion is all about?? What she is best known for are her signature head scarves.  She used everything from shirts, sweaters, table clothes, towels and she always had an oversized brooch pinned on the scarf. Little Edie seemed to maintain a level of glamour at her dilapidated Grey Gardens home.

I thought her brooch was exquisite and really inspired me to get more into brooches. I purchased this brooch (below) because  it reminded me of Edie.

Fashion Resolutions – My Do’s & Don’ts

Here are my thoughts on trends that I hope are here to stay in 2009, and trends that I hope are gone—forever.

DO-

I hope the Skinny jean is here to stay-they are perfect for day or night. Weather paired with a sexy stiletto or cute boots, the skinny jean offers you a versatile look that you can not go wrong with.

DON’T-

Those awful athletic sandals and even worse-paired with socks!!!  YUCK, YUCK,YUCK.

DO-

Bold Prints!! Especially black & white-but please…one bold print at a time! You don’t want to make people dizzy.

DON’T

Crocs-ugh. These just look ridiculous on anyone over the age of 3.

DO-

Gladiator sandals-I really love this trend. They are super comfortable but yet so fashionable.

DON’T-

Guys wearing skinny jeans. It just looks ridiculous.

DO-

Blazers look smart with almost anything. They are perfect for day or night.

DON’T-

The boyfriend jean…Katie Holmes started this trend. While Katie was able to rock them, I don’t think these jeans are flattering on everyone.

DO-

Ballerina Flats-Lucille Ball and Audrey Hepburn (two of my favorites) wore them.  These are a timeless & classic fashion statement.  They look smart with jeans & a cute Blazer.
