Beauty on a Budget: DIY Mixing Medium

I have a few pigments and eye shadows in my collection that are not as pigmented as I would like them to be. Using a mixing medium will have bring out the pigmentation and vibrancy of the colors. As you can tell from the photos below, it made a TOTAL difference!

TOP: Jardin Aires Pigment applied with my homemade Mixing Medium

BOTTOM: Jardin Aires pigment applied dry

TOP: MAC Espresso e/s applied with homade Mixing Medium-swatched ONCE

BOTTOM: MAC Espresso e/s applied dry-swatched THREE times to get a noticeable color.

MAC Espresso swatched ONCE dry–hardly any pigmentation

How to Make Your Own Mixing Medium

You will need the following items:

  • Glycerin (You can find this at your local drugstore)
  • Water
  • A small bottle
  • A Tablespoon measuring spoon
  • Funnel (optional)

Using the funnel if necessary, mix 1 tablespoon of glycerin and 3 tablespoons of water into your small bottle.  Mix, and you’re done!

Playing with “I Got Good Jeans”

Yesterday I used my Wet n’ Wild “I Got Good Jeans” eye shadow trio. I must say, I really liked it! It’s always nice to be pleasently surprised like that. I have to say that some of these eye shadows from Wet n’ Wild are just as pigmented and long wearing as anything you’d find at MAC or Sephora. Not sure how I feel about this gold color being paired with such cool colors in this trio  but overall, I really like the way these shadows preform.

I did a really basic smokey eye–I used the “brow bone” color as my lid color and the “crease” colored in my crease. I darkened it a bit in the outer V with NARS Night Flight.

Golden Green Eyes

I snapped a quick piccy(that would be my car in the background–I LOVE VW! ) while I was out today so I figured I’d include an outfit of the day with this video! I hope you all enjoy the tutorial! xo

Playing with NARS’ Night Flight

It is my mission in life to own all the colors in the NARS Night Series(I NEED Night Fever in my life). To date, I own Night Breed, Night Star & Night Flight. Night Flight is described as black with cobalt blue pearls. I think it’s the most beautiful and unique color-ever, however, I find that it’s a little hard for me to pull off. Not sure if it’s my skin tone (I find that this shade looks fabulous on ladies with a darker skin tone). It’s a very hard shade to pair with other colors. I’ve seen tutorials were people often pair NF with Surabaya–beautiful combo but again, I think it would look silly on my NW20 skin tone.

I’ve been trying to work with Night Flight because I *really* want to wear it to the Avenged Sevenfold concert I’m going to in a few weeks. Typically I’ve been trying to work with itall over the lid as a more deep, dramatic smokey eye rather than putting it only on my crease/ outer corner. Besides, not sure what other colors I could put on the lid that would compliment NF in the outer crease. The fact that it has cobalt blue pearls makes it harder to pair but I love the shade so much.

Today I paired it with Wet n’ Wild’s Lagoon. It seems like a very complimenting shade! Not sure how it would look with Lagoon on the lid and Night Flight in the crease-perhaps I’ll try to play around with it like that one day. But I think Night Flight works better on the entire lid with a lighter complimenting shade in the crease. What do you think?
