New Look!

NancyValentino.com has gotten a facelift!  I wanted to incorporate more of a vintage look, since it is such a big part of my everyday life.  I hope everyone enjoys the new layout!

Vintage Brooches & My Style Inspiration

My fashion statement piece at the moment are: Vintage Brooches

I am a big fan of brooches. It’s a good way to add a little personalization to your look. I usually have the brooch (pictured below-crappy cell phone pic!) on my pea coat and I feel that it adds a certain something. I have constantly gotten comments on this brooch.

Recently I purchased this beautiful cameo. Being a lover of vintage, I feel that it gives my look a hint of the past while wearing a modern outfit.

This brooch (pictured below) is the one that I am the most excited to play around with. It’s inspired by Little Edie Beale.

After watching Grey Gardens & learning more about Little Edie Beale, I became inspired by her fashion. Little Edie and her mother, Big Edie were not the most normal people in the world (in fact they were very reclusive). They were free spirits and that’s what I absolutely LOVED about them.  Little Edie had a VERY unique fashion sense and she was not afraid to take risks.  She was strikingly beautiful in her younger years.

Some people may have thought Edie’s style was “out there” but it was distinctive, isn’t that was fashion is all about?? What she is best known for are her signature head scarves.  She used everything from shirts, sweaters, table clothes, towels and she always had an oversized brooch pinned on the scarf. Little Edie seemed to maintain a level of glamour at her dilapidated Grey Gardens home.

I thought her brooch was exquisite and really inspired me to get more into brooches. I purchased this brooch (below) because  it reminded me of Edie.

Philosophy’s Cinnamon Buns

I love how Philosophy’s bath products are 3 in 1 – you can use them as a bubble bath, shower gel & a shampoo. I prefer to use the product as a shower gel and bubble bath.  A little goes a long way  when using it as a shower gel and it lathers up really well.

With the holidays just around the corner, my favorite flavor to use for the Fall season is: Cinnamon Buns. It smells like an actual cinnamon bun. The smell is authentic, not overly sweet and fake like some scents can be.  What I love best about it? It’s a guilt free way to enjoy a cinnamon bun!

Trend at the Moment: The Bootie Stiletto

I love the fall season; it gives me the opportunity to break out something other than flip flops or sandals.  Since I am the mommy to a two year old, I live in my Uggs in the fall, winter & most of the spring months but lately I have been pretty into the bootie stilettos.  I used to hate them with a passion, I thought they looked odd and plain ridiculous.  But I’ve  grown to adore them  and recently  bought a few pairs.

I really love how you can pair these booties with jeans or dress them up with tights-they are so versatile!

New Clothes from Asia

I recently purchased some things directly from Asia and they finally came! I find myself becoming more and more into fashion and I have always admired the fashion from overseas. It’s a bit different & that’s what I love about it.

Here are few things that I got:

I LOVE this white dress; I’ve never seen anything like it. It screams classic & timeless & most of all, elegant.  I think it will be a beautiful addition to my collection. It was supposedly a “one size fits all”  dress which is bull because the dress is teeny tiny-thankfully it was a perfect fit!

I have always been into form fitting blazers. I started to get tired of the same ol’  styles so thats what I love this blazer. It reminds me a little of the 1980′s because it’s a little roomy. Paired with a form fitting tank, an over sized pin, jeans and flats, this is going to be a fierce look. I can’t wait!

This is another cute blazer, this one is not as over sized and actually has 3 buttons on it (as opposed to the other one that only had one button). It’s light weight and like the other blazer, it’s a perfect fit! I’m really into flats so this is another item that will look cute with jeans & flats.

Purrrrr: My Kitten Classic Look

Today I used my Stila Smudge Pot in Kitten as well as the regular Stila eye shadow in Kitten and my Kitten Lip Glaze to create what I call my “Kitten Classic Look”. It’s really just an awesome champagne golden smokey brown look. I plan to do a tutorial for my YouTube channel using this look within the week so be on the lookout!

My Lastest Obession: Smudge Pots

I recently bought   a few smudge pots and have been in love ever since!

blog 003

I always wanted to try smudge pots but I was always hesitant because if you mess up, you’re pretty much screwed because these suckers do not budge!  Another reason that I didn’t buy one sooner is because they are kinda pricey, about $20 per pot.

I was very fortunate when I got my Stila Kitten Collection though; I got a great deal for both smudge pots (Black Cat & Kitten) as well as the Kitten Lip Glaze.  They are beautiful colors and both are so easy and workable when I use them.

I haven’t actually used them as a liner yet or even tried to smudge them out. I’ve used Kitten & Black Cat to create a beautiful smokey eye with golden shimmer.  It’s my favorite look and I have been wearing it so much lately! I also bought a L’Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eye Liner (a fancy name for smudge pot :D ) in Brown and I wear this with Stila’s Kitten smudge pot a lot too.

The newest addition to my collection are my Stila Holiday Smudge Pots . You get a lot of product for only $32! Insane! Overall,  I  find that they are so easy to use and quite quick!
